Equal Wall Stators for PC Pumps
Stators with equal thickness rubber walls are now available for seepex progressive cavity pumps. The stators are made with a revolutionary procedure that uses a metal tube hydraulically bent into a double helix. This is the same shape as the helix that forms the cavity inside the pumping element. This makes the thickness of the rubber in the stator constant. Conventional manufacturing produces a double helix shape in a cylindrical tube creating thin and thick sections of elastomer.
These stators are less affected by chemical attack and temperature changes than conventional designs. Hysteresis failures (rubber "chunking") and bond failures are virtually eliminated. They are excellent for use in applications that have wide temperature variations, such as food or dairy pumps that are cleaned-in-place (CIP), or mixed solvents. On non-abrasive applications they can generate twice the pressure of conventional designs. In a well-documented CIP yogurt application, equal wall stators lasted five times longer than conventional designs.
As with all seepex designs, the stators are molded to size with integral seals molded into the ends. Gaskets are not used. A variety of elastomers are available. The seepex innovation uses an inexpensive tube rather than expensive cast tubes, which must be reworked after use.
